MMPCS Grant Program

Local Government Academy is pleased conduct the Multi-Municipal Planning & Community Sustainability Grant Program. To date more than $500,000 in grants have been awarded to more than 30 multi-municipal groups.

Applications for the Multi-Municipal Planning & Community Sustainability Grant Program are accepted throughout the year, but applications are reviewed twice annually - May 1 and Nov. 1.


Purpose:

The purpose of this program is to support the creation and implementation of multi-municipal plans in conformance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC). Applicants are eligible for grants up to $8,500 per municipality for one or more of the following:

  • multi-municipal comprehensive planning;
  • implementing multi-municipal planning priorities;
  • community sustainability assessments by individual or teams of municipalities

The program is being administered by the Local Government Academy (LGA) with funds from the Heinz Endowments. All grants are contingent upon receipt of funds by LGA.

Eligibility:

Watch this webinar on Sustainable Pittsburgh's Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification to learn how you can become eligible for grant funding by completing the certification process.

The program accepts applications at any time; however reviews take place twice annually. The Academy received applications May 1 and November 1 of each year.  Municipalities who wish to apply in this round must:

  • Contact LGA at 412-586-5659 to discuss your proposal.
  • Execute an Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement generally consistent with the following model: sample-intergovernmental-cooperation-agreement
  • Not sure what multi-municipal planning entails? Contact LGA and arrange for training program.
