Open Streets: Streets for People, Sharing Resources, and Transforming Communities 0 Open Streets: Streets for People, Sharing Resources, and Transforming Communities Thursday, June 8th 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Register here FREE Open Streets events temporarily shut down a significant and continuous stretch of roadway to automobile traffic for 3 to 6 hours and residents are encouraged to use the roadway in new ways. Participants are invited to dance, bike, do yoga, and/or partake in a host of additional fun and exciting activities offered by local business owners and organizations. Open Streets serve to increase social interactions, stimulate economic activity by increasing foot traffic, mitigate the negative environmental impact of vehicle emissions by encouraging walking and biking, and highlight healthy lifestyles. Join the SCDN and Bike Pittsburgh’s Director of Events, Mike Carroll, for a webinar on Open Streets, a nationwide initiative to reactivate streets for all modes of travel. Pittsburgh is an early adopter. Along three different routes over a span of May, June, and July, selected streets in Pittsburgh neighborhoods are open to yoga, dancing, biking, shopping, children’s activities, running, brunching, lounging, and more. Scheduled programs are provided by businesses, neighbors, non-profits, and others coming together. Join Local Government Academy, Sustainable Pittsburgh, and Bike Pittsburgh in this webinar to learn how an Open Streets event can reactivate your community, encourage regional and multimodal transportation connections and help foster healthier neighborhoods.
