Cathy Trexler is Management Analyst for the Allegheny County Department of Public Works where she serves as the Accreditation Manager for the American Public Works Association (APWA) Accreditation Program. She manages the program that led Allegheny County to becoming the first public works agency in Pennsylvania to be accredited by APWA. The accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that meet or exceed the requirements of nationally established best management practices for the public works industry. Maintaining accredited status ensures that the Allegheny County Department of Public Works continues to deliver high-quality services in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
Cathy is very involved with APWA both at the local and national levels where she is able to address educational needs and advocate for public works priorities of importance to Allegheny County and the communities in the 25 counties served by the local chapter. She currently is president of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter and serves regionally on the Council of Chapters. In addition, she is an APWA Accreditation Evaluator for the purpose of conducting onsite reviews of public works agencies across the United States and Canada.
Cathy is an alumna of Robert Morris University, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership Women in Leadership program, and the Local Government Academy’s Newly Elected Officials Course. She was awarded the 2009 Robert Morris University Alumni Achievement Award and the 2006 APWA Pennsylvania Woman in Public Works Award. She was an elected official and served as President of Council for Brentwood Borough. She has a diversified background working for major corporations including Consolidated Natural Gas, Peoples Natural Gas, and Gulf Oil Corporation.
