As 2019 comes to an end, it is with a sense of pride that we look back and join with our friends to celebrate our accomplishments and extend our heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support shown to Local Government Academy.
This past year brought many changes to the Academy and enlightened us to the challenges and needs facing our communities. With every program and at each workshop, we listened, took notes, and dared ourselves to ask, “how can we do this better?”
These changes will become apparent as we enter the 25th year of the Municipal Intern Program with new standards in place and program criteria to elevate project outcomes. The Intern Class of 2020 will set new benchmarks as we implement performance-based goals informed by past interns, academic partners, and municipal placement sites.
Thirty-six years ago, our founders established the Academy with the purpose to provide training and educational programs for local governmental officials and staff, a responsibility that we take seriously. Demonstrating that our mission continues to resonate is the surge of interest in our Flagship Program, the Newly Elected Officials Course. This unique series of classes goes beyond the basics to provide a comprehensive examination of the roles and responsibilities of municipal officials. As the program continues through the winter months, we cross our fingers for friendly weather and eagerly await March 4th when the 2020 graduating class becomes the 18th to join the ranks of NEOC Alumni.
For the past three-plus decades, Local Government Academy has built a legacy of education and leadership development across Southwestern Pennsylvania. As we look forward, we also remember our past and pay tribute to those who came before us, because, with every graduating class of newly elected officials and every intern, we know the future is bright. Today, the Academy is stronger than ever with an expansive volunteer base, loyal and sustaining Advocates, caring and dedicated staff, and solid leadership from a united Board of Directors.
Since 1983, this organization has stayed true to its mission to Promote Excellence in Local Government and we move into the New Year reinvigorated and more committed than ever to deliver education to elected and appointed officials and municipal staff. We hope you will join with us as we continue forward, changing and challenging both ourselves and our communities, to listen, learn, and commit to excellence in local government.
Wishing you happy holidays and a bright 2020.
