Through an initial focus on community engagement, education, and the expansion of resident and business participation, Ecodistricts cultivate fertile ground for bold visions of sustainable development to take root and flourish. Fostering transparency, action, and accountability in the subsequent phases ensures the vision is successfully implemented with robust community support.

This webinar features practical insights, experience, and advice from Ecodistrict and sustainable community practitioners. Presenters will discuss developing and implementing the Ecodistrict process in the City of Pittsburgh and Millvale Borough, and experiences with expanding Millvale’s award-winning Ecodistrict plan to include neighboring communities in the process, the Boroughs of Etna and Sharpsburg, forming the Triboro Ecodistrict. The original Millvale Ecodistrict Pivot plan won an American Planning Association’s National Planning Achievement Award for Environmental Planning.

The Ecodistrict planning process is ideal for improving community sustainability. It is well aligned with the criteria set forth in the Sustainable Pennsylvania Community Certification, a statewide program of the Pennsylvania Municipal League managed in collaboration with Sustainable Pittsburgh.
