While the presidential election undeniably reshapes our national political landscape, it’s our elected officials at the local level who determine key aspects of our day-to-day experiences, including road safety and walkability, a welcoming business district, and public services. The decisions made by local municipal officials have a direct correlation to quality of life, yet a large percentage of registered voters sit this one out.
On May 18th, local officials up for election include mayoral candidates, city and borough council members, township commissioners, and school board members. We also have a wide array of Judgeship positions open (including a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court) – positions that come with 10-year terms and far-reaching powers.
Anyone can look up their polling place by clicking here. When heading out to your voting location, bring identification. Votes PA lists all acceptable forms of ID.
There is a lot on the ballot this year. Encourage your fellow voters to do their research, take notes, or go online and create a custom voter guide to take with them: https://www.vote411.org/
The more people who vote, the more our government represents our people and the issues we care about accurately. On Tuesday, May 18th, get out there and vote, encourage and help others to vote, get that sticker, and do your part to shape the next generation of government!
