Every two years, the Pennsylvania Municipal Primary brings forth individuals eager to demonstrate their leadership as a local elected official.
A role in public service is not to be undertaken lightly, but thanks to the vision of Allegheny County almost 40 years ago, Local Government Academy is here to support those seeking to give back to their community.
No matter if you are running for office, newly elected, or a long-serving official, our educational programs offer rich learning opportunities. Using the past year to bolster our online resources, we have a wealth of pre-recorded educational videos available to enhance the skills of municipal staff and volunteers serving on appointed boards. Contact us if you want training materials for your administrative staff, planning commission and more!
Continuing in that vein, we are excited to announce our partnership with the Government Finance Officers Association of Pennsylvania (GFOA) to host a three-part webinar series examining the fundamentals of municipal finances. Instructors will examine standards for financial controls, best practices for communicating with public officials, and documenting personnel costs for successful labor negotiations.
Local Government Academy is eager for in-person classes to return, and we are expecting to be face-to-face for the 2021-2022 Newly Elected Officials Course, which begins shortly after the general election. Until then, we will continue to provide online learning experiences taught by subject matter experts on matters relevant to local governments.
