Summer Break? Not for us, in fact, June marks one of our busiest months!

Summer means internships, and that means the Municipal Intern Program, Class of 2021, is busy working in our local communities and learning about local government. As a successful workforce development initiative, the Municipal Intern Program is committed to offering a robust and worthwhile experience for both the students and placement sites. As we begin making our rounds to visit the placement sites and meet our interns in person, we are also preparing for our first Development Day, which brings together municipal and academic professionals to augment real-world experience and improve interviewing skills, resumes, and build networks.

Our online educational programming continues with a great lineup during the month of June. Starting this Thursday, June 10, at 2:00 PM, featuring the relevant topic of government officials and the use of cell phones, texts, and social media, The Accidental Meeting will examine how such use might be subject to the Right to Know Law. This course is approved for PA CLE accreditation!

This June marks a new—at least in my tenure—partnership with the Government Finance Officers Association of Pennsylvania (GFOA-PA). Working closely with esteemed finance professional Judy Kording, Shaler Township Assistant Manager, Local Government Academy will offer three online workshops covering municipal finance and budget best practices. Designed to support the mission of GFOA to enhance the education and development of finance professionals in Pennsylvania’s governmental entities, the webinar series is pending for Continuing Education for finance professionals.

June also marks the return of in-person meetings with the Allegheny League of Municipalities Educational Conference at Seven Springs, June 17-20. Looking forward to seeing friends and attend in-person workshops again! Stop by the Local Government Academy booth to say hi!
