Local Government Academy understands the incredible dedication required to serve in local government. Oftentimes it is a thankless job that occurs quietly in the background of our lives, receiving attention primarily during election seasons or when disaster strikes.
After 40 years of service, Local Government Academy remains stalwart in our commitment to empower municipal leaders through education designed to enhance their understanding of their roles and responsibilities as public servants.
This month we celebrate the 20th iteration of the Newly Elected Officials Course. First offered in 1984, this program is not for the faint of heart as it encompasses 40 hours of in-person instruction delivered over a three-month period. Those graduating as the Class of 2024 are an elite set of informed leaders capable of addressing the evolving challenges of contemporary governance.
For those contemplating a foray into public service, we urge you to do so with a spirit of civility and a genuine desire to contribute positively to your community. Attend governing body meetings, not just when grievances arise, but as a proactive step towards understanding the nuances of leadership and governance. Most importantly, for those ready to serve, let us know if you are willing to make the commitment to excellence in local government because we have the resources to help.
