May 9th dawned bright and clear, and the weather held out for the 2019 Promoting Excellence Golf Outing hosted by the Local Government Academy.
This annual spring tradition is the 16th year that our sponsors and partners have joined together to help raise financial support for operations and educational programming to elected and appointed municipal officials and staff. The Golf Outing also benefits the Michael P. Lynch Scholarship Fund, which ensures that our training programs are within reach for any local government elected official or employee who is interested in receiving training. This scholarship provides the opportunity to attend LGA programs for free or at a reduced fee and is named in honor of LGA’s first Chairman of the Board and former Mayor of Monroeville, the Michael P. Lynch.
In its 16th year, the Promoting Golf Outing broke records for attendance and fundraising. We had a full complement of golfers, and we broke records with the 50/50 raffle and game sales.
Speaking of games! Mark Mansfield, LGA Board Member and Golf Committee Chair, made this year’s outing exciting and challenging with a Hodgepodge Scramble and Land the Green skill tests. While no one hit the hole-in-one, everyone jumped in to the competitive fun thanks to Mark’s (some would say devious) imagination and desire to make each outing unique.
Stating that the LGA Golf Outing is a tradition for many of our local government friends is an understatement. Many of the players who attend the 2019 outing were present at our first outing held in 2003 with about half playing all 16 years! To enjoy such commitment is truly humbling, and we thank all our ardent supporters including Peter Post, former LGA Board Member, who donated the 50/50 raffle winnings back to LGA! To see photos from the event, head on over here.
The resounding success of the 2019 Promoting Excellence Golf Outing is largely due to the loyalty of our sponsors, again many of whom are longstanding partners with LGA. It is with great appreciation that we recognize and thank the following sponsors:
