Free Contemplating Governing Course is being offered to All General Election Candidates
- Contemplating Governing is not political training. Instead, it focuses on the tasks and issues facing local government in the 21st century. This program provides citizens the chance to consider the opportunities, challenges, requirements and reasons to serve in local elected office. - Introduction to Municipal Purchasing discusses how your municipality chooses to acquire, account and pay for goods and services. Good government begins with uniform, fair, and transparent procedures that are designed to first and foremost serve the best interests of the local government, the residents, and taxpayers. - Fight Blight Brightly and Fight Blight Brightly – LITE also are being offered online. First launched in July 2014, “From Blight to Bright,” is a comprehensive toolkit for Pennsylvania communities seeking to prevent and mitigate blight. Published by the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, it is part of a library of resources available to help communities fight blight. Additional materials can be found at www.housingalliancepa.org.
Fight Blight Brightly is a 10-week program, open to everyone, in which lessons are completed individually, in order to access the next lesson. This program is $50, with discounts for financially distressed communities. You may register until Nov. 16.
Fight Blight Brightly-LITE is a five-week program, offered to elected officials and municipal managers, that allows participants access to all lessons at once. Your enrollment in this course must be approved. This program costs $25, with discounts available. You may register until Nov. 16.
