Attention Local Governments! Interested in a summer intern? Local Government Academy’s Municipal Intern Program is now accepting applications!

What is the Municipal Intern Program? The Municipal Intern Program is a competitive program that is designed to give graduate and undergraduate students an introduction to public sector employment opportunities while providing much needed capacity to local governments.

Local Government Academy facilitates this program by helping to identify potential interns and providing a reimbursement grant of a portion of the student’s wages to selected placement sites. Eligible placement sites include municipalities, councils of governments, and municipal authorities in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Act 47 designated municipalities located in Western Pennsylvania.

Eligible intern projects must address key issues local governments face and provide meaningful, real-world experience for the intern. We typically receive more applications than we can fund so we are interested in projects that show how versatile and engaging working in local government can be.

Potential projects can address:

• Geographic Information Systems development
• Implementation of blight remediation strategies
• MS4 Stormwater Data Collection and Recommendations
• Comprehensive Plan Implementation
• Community Outreach and Public Education
